Year 10 to Year 11 (Stage 6) - Subject Selections
Our aim is to provide you with all the latest information that will help you make decisions about your future career and your life beyond school.
You can use this site MTHS careers information to locate University, TAFE and any other type of course across Australia, get information about the HSC, search for job vacancies and much more. Feel free to drop into the Careers Office if you have any questions.
The Year 8/10 Subject Selection Night will be held on Thursday 8th August 2024
Students and parents/carers are encouraged to attend so they can:
- Meet our staff and ask questions about courses offered in 2025
- Get priority access to their subject selection forms
- Ask questions if an SBAT/TAFE course is right for them
- Make informed decisions for 2025 and beyond
Externally Delivered VET Courses
Students in Years 10/11 have the option of studying VET courses either at school, or through external, accredited training providers such as TAFE NSW. VET courses delivered by an external RTO/training provider to school students are known as EVET courses. Several small training providers also deliver VET training to school students.
See the proposed TAFE-delivered VET courses in the pdf below.
TAFE are also offering 20 new HSC virtual VET courses. They are ATAR eligible and lead to a nationally recognised qualification.

School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs) allow senior high school students to commence an apprenticeship or traineeship while at school. School-based apprentices undertake the first stage of their apprenticeship training before the end of the HSC year. School-based trainees complete their traineeship by the end of their HSC year.
SBATs work part-time. Both the on-the-job and off-the-job training undertaken by school-based apprentices/trainees contributes to their HSC.
